Ken-Ten Series

KMS

October 8th 2011

Race Recap

The 50th anniversary celebration at Kentucky Motor Speedway had its share of fireworks on the track and after the show ! We had a near record of 26 late models on hand but lost two to engine problems! Local shoe Dakota Stroup set the JAB Racing fast time award with a new track record and went on to draw the pole for the feature.

Dakota beat outside pole sitter Sammy Sanders to turn one for lead. On our 4th caution on lap 46 for the car of Josh Brock who had a panhard bar rupture his oil tank which turned into a red flag for the clean up. Tough break for Josh who came into the race second in the points!

The race went yellow and back to green on lap 51 with a new leader as Sanders had wrestled the lead back from Stroup. Our 5th caution (which turned into another red flag) flew again for the spinning car of Jeremy Levenson in turn 1,also collected were the cars of rookie Logan Green making his first race of the year and Marty Taylor, both were able to restart the race at the tail!

We went back to racing on lap 70 and on lap 72 Stroup while trying to get the lead back from Sanders spun and in the Ken-Ten Series both the spinner and spinnee both go to the tail, the worst for wear out of that deal was Dennis White who had stopped also had to go to the tail !!

We now have a new leader, Danny Smith who had been hanging around the top 5 all race long was ready for his first Ken Ten win. Danny goes on to lead from lap 72 to 100 but was disqualified in the post race inspection due to a weight to engine combination violation!!

Without much fanfare 18 year old Hunter Willis gets the win after he passes post race inspection. Hunter is in his freshman year of college and is the co-champion along with his brother Chad at Beech Bend Raceway Park in 2011.

The veteran Sammy Sanders showed a lot of patience from going to the tail and came back to finish 2nd! Chad Willis came home 3rd, Local driver Kraig Hall was 4th. Both Chad and Kraig were in the top 6 redraw for their starting spots. Josh Bryns finished 5th along with Kevin Willis in 6th who claimed the extra cash from

Baums S & S Tire in L-ville Ky, Dale Baum also put up another $100 to the winner! Points leader Brian Royalty finished 7th to open up his lead a few more points.

The Ken-Ten Staff would like to THANK all the racers, fans and KMS for a great show !!!
